Nov. '04 Avalon CTP Available for Public Download
By popular demand, the Avalon team has provided the November 2004 Avalon Community Technology Preview for the general public. In addition, the team has provided a batch file to enable the Avalon project item templates for use in the beta of Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition, which is also freely available to the general public.
This combination enables folks without an MSDN Subscription to try out Avalon with Visual Studio 2005 without an MSDN Subscription.
Don't be shy about giving feedback on these bits now that you've got 'em. The Avalon team is standing by in the Avalon newsgroup to answer your questions and take your suggestions.

If you install this CTP - your Sql Server 2005 would break.
If you install this CTP - your whidbey beta1 would crap out.
... atleast for the major high profile softwares they should.
I am *dying* to try out avalon - and virtual machines are uncomfortably slow. I cannot kill whidbey on my desktop because I bring work home from work, I cannot obviously try this on my work pc, and I cannot do it on my laptop because I use that for presentations and usergroup talks.
I'm missing out on all this !! :( SNIFF SNIFF

Rob Relyea:
This build of Avalon requires an install of pre-release .Net Frameworks 2.0 "Whidbey" to be installed on a Windows XP sp2 machine.
Specifically, it will require v2.0.40607. Unfortunately, if you have older or newer builds of v2 installed, you would have to uninstall them to use this build. (to check if you have any installed see %windir%\microsoft.net\framework\ for any folder starting with "v2.0" - use Add/Remove programs to uninstall)
We apologize if you need to use both builds at the same time. You'll need to use 2 different machines or a Virtual PC for one of the scenarios.
Thanks, Rob Relyea

Sql Server 2005 was picky about the MINOR version of .NET framework, even though the major versions VS 2005 Beta1 and Sql's 2005 were the same as Avalon - 2.0. 40607.
What is the MINOR version for Avalon, and should we care?

oh - and forget about Solitaire - that crashed my display driver so I ended up with Windows running in 640x480x16bpp and requiring a reboot.
