Looking for an Xbox 360

I got my first hands on Xbox 360 demo today and I want one! Unfortunately, MS employees aren't treated specially, i.e. there isn't a big warehouse full of 360s for us at the MS Store. However, there is an internal mailing list filled with rapid pre and post-360 purchasers that showed me several resources to use to find 360s:

  • 360 Tracker, a WinForms app to find stores in my area with 360s in stock. Will alert me via email and my cell phone as well as on my computer screen. It's running now.
  • NotifyWire.com, a web site that will filter for online sales in my price range and notify me via email and SMS. I've created my account.
  • xbox360tracker.com, a web site that shows online sales and their in-stock status. Available as an RSS feed, so that's a reason to run one again! : )

I don't want any fancy bundles and I don't want to purchase online -- I want the premium bundle and I want to walk out of the store with it. Is that so much to ask?

Just wait until the cost of manufacturing goes down, so MS will produce more (ie they will lose LESS per box), then they'll be all over the place.

Chez Box is now equipped with one - you may enjoy playing DOA 4 with Evan on your next visit.

It really is an amazing value thanks to MCE and Windows Media Connect...

I managed to find one for a friend of mine shortly before christmas by subscribing to xbox360tracker.com's rss feed, but didn't get one myself at that time - a decision I later came to regret.

About two weeks ago, I noticed on Circuit City's online inventory locator that one of their stores here had them in stock and managed to get me one as well. Even without an HDTV, it's an awesome system.

Both Best Buy and Circuit City have online options to check local stores, though both have these hidden somewhere where it's not easy to find by simply navigating their sites (if possible at all)

The URLs to use are http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/howToGetItTab.do?c=1&zip=97007&oid=137824 and http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcat17006&type=page&sourceId=1099395571979&sourceType=product&skuId=999947300050001&productId=1099395571979&itemId=847033%3Cbr%20/%3E

good luck!

Thank you for highlighting the most important contribution to software development in decades. Got my notification from XBOX360 Tracker at 10 and had a box in my hand by 11:30.

Ditto to Luke's comment on Circuit City and Best Buy. I just scored one last thursday through the Best Buy page. I wrote a little app that check my local stores for availability and send me an SMS when one's found (God bless .NET 2 for that).
BTW 360 is awesome!

I finally got one. I couldn't find one in Houston in any chain store (even with the provided links), but my brother called me from Alabama to let me know the Wal-Marts there are extremely well-stocked with them, so one is on its way to me right now.

Even better - check craigslist. That's where I got mine. Took about 3 days of watching before I found a deal that was fairly priced and had exactly the games I wanted.

Well, beyond the fact that Xbox Live Signup services are down right now, it's a badass machine, even without HDTV (I'm gonna plug it into my 24" widescreen monitor later this weekend). Very heavy-duty cabling (love the HDTV/TV setup), too. Only thing I really don't like: the LB and RB buttons, since my fingers hit them with I use the triggers)

Crap, you should have talked to me. I "won" one from TextPayMe.com and sold it 10 minutes later for $350.
