Xbox 360 Warranty: Now 1 Year (Retroactively!)

I love it when we do a good thing:

"Effective today (December 22), the one year warranty is now the standard for all Xbox 360 consoles. Customers that experience hardware issues with their Xbox 360 within one year of purchase will have their consoles repaired at no cost. Moreover, the new warranty policy is retroactive, so consumers that may have already paid for out-of-warranty Xbox 360 repair within one year of the console's purchase will be eligible for reimbursement of their console repair charges."

I'm a big Vista fan, I'm loving Office 12 and I live on my WM5 phone, but the Xbox 360 is currently the coolest thing we do. And it just keeps getting better.

P.S. If the postscripts aren't appreciated, why do they get all the feedback?

Granville, Chris said the 'coolest.' I am as big a fanboy as the next ( fanboy), but 360 is much much bigger in terms of 'cool' than Vista. In fact, Vista owes a big chunk of its coolness to 360 (Media Center to 360's MCE).

Well the 360 is cool but personally I still think Vista is way cooler :-)

I did nearly change my mind aobut a month ago when I bough COD3 for the 360 - that game is visually awesome!

That's great news! Unless you're the poor sap (like me) who decided that rather than shelling out $140 to get their Xbox replaced w/ the risk of it breaking again, they'd rather just chalk it up as a loss, sell it for scraps ($120), and go buy a new one w/ a 2 year replacement plan from Best Buy. Arg.
It's good to see Microsoft do the right thing now. But it's worse to see that we've been doing the wrong thing for so long.
Faulty equipment + short warranty = customers that hate you (and I work there too).

P.S. I read your blog mainly for the technical content/news, but the post scripts are great! It's good to see you stand up for your right to post your own opinion on your own blog (what a concept). Some people are way too P.C. around here.

Chris - what's so great about the X-Box 360? I ask only because it's now back in the box ready to be put up for sale on Craigslist and I'd really like to find a compelling reason to keep it. How do you use yours, aside from the obvious?

Cheers,
Kevin

I use my Xbox 360 for 3 things:
1. DVD player
2. Gears of War
3. Media Center PC Extender

The Xbox 360 + my LCD HDTV constitute 100% of my home theater system.
