Name Sara Williams's Baby Girl

Today, Sara Williams, ex-Developer Relations Group (the folks at MS that were allowed to speak to developers before we had blogs), ex-MSDN head and ex-Microsoftie has given birth this morning to a 5 lb. 4 oz baby girl. Both mother and daughter are doing well (and father is resting fitfully, having lost a month of sleep with the arrival of his daughter a bit earlier than planned).

However, their daughter does not yet have a name and, on the suggestion of Mr. Box, I am soliciting suggestions. If your suggestion is picked, you will be awarded a signed book of your choice (regardless of whether I wrote it or not). Have at it!

She could go with the Microsoft naming scheme:

"Baby"

I've always been partial to "Hannah" and "Rebecca" - if I win, I'd pick an original Gutenberg bible, autographed by Chris and Don Box. ;-)

Christi and Donna come to mind first, of course. Indy, Foxy, Johanna, Lea, Blair, Clair, Lex, Joelle, Ronda, Heidi, Sally, Melinda, Laura, Erica, Wilma, Rogue, Maya, Micha.

Oh, and please let give Sara my big congratulations! Yes, it's true... babies are much more fun than COM (and more complicated).

Her baby starts out with a cool name like Venus. All her family and friends love the name. Someone even writes a book about her early life using the name Venus.

Then, someone who doesn't know her (or will ever understand her) gets the authority to come up with a new name...

She is renamed Williams Baby Foundation.

WBF is her new name, but I'm still to still call her Venus!

Having known Sara back when she was helping us poor COM early adopters (she once called me to ask very politely if I could fix my app so as not to release somebody elses IUnknown pointer - yes the MS compatibility group were that good), I give my hearty congratulations.

And thus I suggest Monica for a name, in honor of IMoniker.

Congrats Sara! Daughters are awesome. :)

How about "Susan"? It's a nice name, not *too* popular (in fact it is trending less popular in recent years: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/), and everyone knows how to spell it.

I suggest they name her after me, but I don't think that will go over well. Since the dog is named after a boat part…how about the daughter? Maybe outhaul, gudgeon or pintle? Best bet is they just stick with the project name: Vinny.

I used my normal approach to naming and came up with two names I really like.

I'm torn between cc3790c0-e1d7-4e41-9d4e-4bad798e524e and badf6d05-8583-46c4-b3e0-5b5834b82f9f.

I'm leaning towards the former as kids will likely call her "Cece" for short, whereas with the latter I think "Bad-ef" is a little too pretentious.

Yes, I'm no longer torn. It's cc3790c0-e1d7-4e41-9d4e-4bad798e524e Spalding for sure!

PS: The resource URI for Sara Williams returns a redirect for Sara Spalding as of about two or three years ago. When Robb and Sara married, I offered them a new last name to avoid the confusion but they didn't really like the sounds of "Robb and Sara d02b1ba1-69b3-4a17-9f16-fe0a8ae9fca5" for some reason.

I've always liked "Sylvie" or "Sylvia" and, if I ever have a daughter, that'll be her name. A related name would be "Sophie".

Best of luck! and congratulations!

Wahoo! no sleep for you for 2 months!

Sara Williams Spalding:

What great suggestions - thank you all!

I'm thrilled to let you all know that we've chosen a name: Avery Elizabeth Spalding. Avery beat out "Sarah", Don's badf guid, Spalding 2007: Infant Edition, and Cinderella (suggested by our 6-year old friend) as the top contender.

Thanks again to everyone for your great suggestions and warm wishes. Robb and I are having a terrific time getting to know her and starting to realize just what we've gotten ourselves into. :-)

Name her as "Sara", well i know that's her mother's name, but she's an image of her mother, so name her "Sara"

Or you can name her "Saroj" - Indian name Means "Lotus flower", this name has a sound of "Sara" as well

let me know what you people named her...
