Chris, Want a copy... Need! A Copy! Actually, I run the Bellingham area .NET Users Group (INETA Member) and we are in fact doing a presentation on WPF tonight. Any chance you could run a copy up here before 6pm? A copy in the mail later would be just fine, and I will share it with any member that wants to take a look. andleer@gmail.com. Thanks!

Hi Chris,

Today I read this book in Safari and it explained better the Data Driven UI
coding and also about the Keep Alive. I have the Orange book and Petzold book, so I think yours seems to be on track to be one of the best WPF.

Anyways, my email is molekilla@gmail.com

Thanks,

I've been reading a lot of info about WPF online since I first heard about it when the 2003 PDC was on (back when it was Avalon), but so far I've only used it for a couple of small fun projects and haven't really gotten into it. I'm going to be starting a new job soon, and will probably need to use WPF there, so a free book will be a big help.

Because I'm organizing the Boise Code Camp, as well as leading an INETA user group, and need some swag...as well as material for topics.

If that doesn't work: according to you, it requires four books to grok WPF, and right now I only have Petzold's book. That leaves me three books shy right now.

Well, i live in Australia which might mean that i am ineligible for the book anyway, but there goes.

Here at my workplace I have introduced a sport called "faceball". In short, it involved me throwing a stress ball at a colleagues face while he is coding and oblivious to the outside world.

I'd be interested in a copy. Why? Because you owe me, man. You owe me for all those apple ][ floppies we copied with locksmith upstairs at your house and down in my basement back when we were in junior high school. Too bad Jon had a VIC-20, or he could have played too. That, and because Grady Booch said that I rock. (yeah, there's a story there, but it's not as interesting as you might imagine it to be)

Actually, I'm sure you could find far more deserving people than me for this book, but still, it'd be cool to have a copy. You rock more than I do, no matter what Grady Booch says. Oh - hey - I'll trade you for a copy of my openstep book!

Bruce Abernethy:

I would love to have a copy of your new book.

1) I'm actually doing WPF programming and would love some new insights.
2) Bought the first book - waaaay, back when.
3) Met you at WinDev in Boston long, long time ago and have followed your work ever since.
4) Would write a review, blog it and present to our local .Net User Group.

Why? Because I think WPF has the potential to change the way desktop applications are developed in the not-to-distant future, and I'd love to learn more about developing interfaces that enhance the user's experience!

It is starting to get cold here in Chicago and what better way to keep warm than with a blanket, some hot chocolate and a copy of Programming WPF by Chris Sells (and a laptop of course)!

Also, I bought your WinForms book and unfortunately, it doesn't get much love now a days...I need a replacement :)

I would love to have a copy of this book. I have been meaning to start exploring the .NET 3.5 stack but haven't had much of a chance.

Since free is never enough. I'd like to have your autograph. Ian's autograph. And anybody else that would like to sign the book (obviously I wouldn't know a real one from a fake one. :) ). THAT would be a kick in the pants to get me started on the road to WPF. ;-)

My email: brian.yin_AT_yahoo.com

Love to hear from you!

I deserve one... because I'll write a review of it on BlogCritics.org for you. I've written many reviews of technical books before. You can contact me at nick@thecodingmonkey.net.

Hi Chris !:

Thank you for making such a great offer. I "deserve" your book because I have read you previous books and have gotten such a great education from you, I would do well to learn even more. WPF is an awesome technology, and I would love nothing more than to learn from the "master" himself. Thank you for being such a great teacher, and I look forward to reading your new book.

My email is initri@gmail.com

THANK YOU so much for being such a great teacher.

Joel Marcey:

Well, I am towards the bottom of a very long list of maybe more deserving folks than myself.

Here is my story.

I quit my job in October to start my own software business. One of the products I am thinking of designing does have an important UI component to it, and, of course, WPF is at the front of the list to support that UI. I know your book would be invaluable in my effort to design the product.

Now, on a different thread, if you are a pro football fan, my favorite team is the Buffalo Bills. And, as such, the fans of that team have suffered over the years, especially with 4 straight Super Bowl losses in the early '90s. It would be nice to win something, even if it has nothing to do with football ;-)

Here is my contact info:

misc AT joelmarcey.com

Thanks Chris, even if I don't get the book.

Christopher Estep:

Hi Chris! I need a copy...yes, need. :) Anything that can help me come up to speed more quickly. I work for a very large Telco that is a Java shop but I have an opportunity to work for another company down in the next 2 months but they are heavily invested in .net 3.0.

So you can see how I can use such a thing.

Besides, you have such a cool first name. :)

Mike Weeks:

Since there aren't enough responses here, I'll add my own so you won't feel like no one reads your blog...

I am another who bought your first edition and have been fascinated by WPF since the earliest ctps. I even tried to do a demo of an early ctp for our .net users group which didn't work out so well (how do you guys make it look so easy?)

In any case, I think I deserve a copy since I invested in it when it was new and have been trying to spread the word ever since.

Steven Webb:

Do I *DESERVE* a copy? Well, uh, honestly, probably not. But I would REALLY LIKE a copy (autographed, if you wouldn't mind too much), and it would help lessen the transition into a (yet another) new programming model from Microsoft.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but for me the VB6-to-VB.NET conversion was less than fully entertaining.

Thanks for your consideration.

Holy cow! That's enough requests now. Thank you. : )

Thursday, Nov 15, 2007, 2:34 PM

AC:

~114 requests * $32.99 = $3,760.86

Not bad!

Chris Sells:

Wow. That was hard to pick. My first cut included about three dozen people.

Ultimately, I gave first priority to folks that were going to post a review and second priority to folks that purchased the 1st edition and were nice about looking for an upgrade. I really wanted all of the 1ed people to get an upgrade, but I just didn't have the copies.

Also, I really wanted to give copies to people in the midwest that were going to curl up somewhere warm and read the book, as that's exactly how I like to hear about it getting read. : )

With VS-2008 on the way, can't wait to do some WPF & Silverlight. I'm more a C# coder, not a designer - and a book would be great to get going.

Also, the SP1 of SharePoint will have Silverlight & WPF support - some great sites on the horizon.

Would be great to get a book - PLEASE !!

Obviously too late for me but here are my reasons nonetheless.

#1 I am an indescriminate information sponge
#2 I review books on my blog
#3 I would have donated the book to our local user group library when done thereby maximizing the potential reach of a single postage and packaging cost.

Ah well. Congrats to all those that won.

P.S. Is it *just* coincidence that more gmail people are less frightened of spam-bots? michael.minutillo@gmail.com

If there's any way you could please spare a copy for me, a midwestern software developer / designer. WPF is just the thing I need to raise the level of my WinForm applications. I'll be using WPF on the project I'm gathering requirements on now. This would really give me an awesome boost.

Thanks for the opportunity! Brian
