P2P + DRM
Here. I hesitate to blog this because you might not believe the "my friend" part, but my friend was just downloading some stuff with Kazaa and found a bunch of it tagged with DRM. Apparently AltNet is tagging porn content with Digital Rights Management and dropping it into peer-to-peer networks. When someone finds the AltNcontent in their search, downloads it and is asked to pay some small amount of money before consuming the content. What a great way to get your content out to folks and get paid for it! Why didn't the RIAA think of this instead of suing their customers into oblivion? Those porn guys are always way ahead of their time...

A friend of mine reads playboy for the articles.
Seriously though, I wonder how many of the people downloading from the P2P networks would legally pay for the media given the chance. I know my friend wouldn't.

It would probably depend upon the price. I'm cheap, I'll admit, only buying computer games secondhand or when they've hit the bargain bin. But if I see something that's only a few dollars, I'm highly tempted. After all, that's not much money, not much risk. For instance, I bought The Makeshift Miracle (http://www.makeshiftmiracle.com) when they offered a chance to get it through BitRate. Yes, you're not getting much money that way, but it's a few dollars from each of these customers who would otherwise be getting it free... and you get the advertising that warez and the like alreay do.
