Bill's Money

In a recent interview with Barbara Walters, Bill Gates was asked how he felt about Ted Turner's one billion dollar donation to the United Nation. This is what he had to say:

“Certainly, my giving will be in the same league as Ted’s, and beyond. … During my lifetime, you know, the money will be given away.”

He further went on to say:

“I don’t believe in passing on major wealth to (one’s) children, and therefore everything that I’m earning is going toward the causes that I think can help out.”

So far, Bill has given several hundred million dollars to libraries to provide lower income children with access to PCs and the Internet. Do you have an idea for a charity worthy of Bill's Money? Send your ideas to me, and I'll keep track of them for Bill. When he's ready, he'll know where to come.

Charities for Bill's Money

Just so you know, Bill has never once supported anything from this page and as far as I know, he has no idea this page even exists. Don't get your hopes up.

Keeping His Money in America

I think Bill should keep his money in America. I think he should give his money to charities assisting kids who are not as fortunate as his own, or set up his own charity so that it could accomplish his goals and be run the way he desires. There are so many children in America who do not have a chance at a decent life because they were born to idiotic parents who do not want them and did not intend to have them. Bill could help these children by providing them with learning opportunities they would not otherwise have. He could also help unwanted children be adopted by loving parents. Bill should help children in need before they become the country's future prison population and burdens on society.

School in India

I am Pastor Antony from India. I am basically an engineer but I am involved in full-time ministry Planting churches and social work. I am involved in many women welfare ministries and also educating poor children. We teach Christian morals along with the education. We have a school with 150 poor slum students. They were not able to pay their fees and we are struggling to continue the school. We don't get any support from the govt.

Consider this initial informative letter and please inform us whether you can support our school through your organization. I am ready to send all the required information for your verification. It will be worthy for Bill to support a striving school.

Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you. May God bless you.

Give It To Me (and People Like Me)

If you are really serious about a charity, I have one for you. One that I've always said I would do if I had millions let alone billions of dollars. I would give to real people. People like me and my husband who work full time jobs and extra jobs and still do not get the extra little pleasures out of life because you live from payday to payday. There a many people who need funds just for the little extras - to pay off bills, get the old clunker fixed, take a vacation to see family not even anything exotic, start a business because its not easy to get a business loan, buy a home, a car, or to do whatever honest and all this just because the individual or individuals can not do the small things let alone the big things. Call me a dreamer with wishful thinking. But I really do know how sometimes the smallest amount of financial aid can make a tremendous difference in a person's life. Been there, done that, am there.

Oh, I forgot to add that I would do this all without the persons knowing who their exact benefactor was. Remember the story The Millionaire from the 50's. That was a dream maker.

Indian Schools

I hail from India which as you know is one of the countries whose software professionals are doing very well both here and in India. I am one of them. I stayed in New Delhi the capital of India and my finished school in Delhi too. Unlike the US which is a land of over - surplus we have a diametrically opposite problem in India . Every project gets financially bogged some some time or the other. Corruption in public life, a dangerously growing population further compound the poverty there. Despite all this people strive hard. Its a country still rich in spirituality and simplicity.

What is all this leading to? I have a dream. I dream of giving as many Indian children a good education. Schools back in India have poor facilities and children are taught using outdated and unfriendly, boring methods. A lot of them suffer from low self esteem and a have very skewed look about learning. I wish to make schooling a good experience and not a pain.
My school was one of the average ones in New Delhi and believe me it lacked a lot of facilities. Children had no good library no sports facilities, no vocational programs. The American children are blessed with good libraries, gymnasiums etc. All this is unheard of back in India.

My dream is to make this possible in any manner I can. Teaching is one of the gifts and it feels great to educate in a better way. Good teachers are hard to find. It would be ideal to start some good schools that make a difference. I haven't thought of how to make this possible.

But I will do something about it. If you or Bill think its worthwhile, that would be great too. have you any ideas about how to go about it. I do plan to research out for some Non profitable charity houses which engage in this sort of activity.

Thanks.

Krackow High Schools

My brother is a teacher of English language in one of the famous High School (simply called number 5 high school) in Krakow. He is also involved in the organization which helps children from the poorest margins of the society (parents are alcoholics, no parents etc.). I was asked if I could help with organizing any connection to charity organizations in Canada or USA (I live in Canada).

If you think Bill would be interested in supporting financially vacation tours and daily activities for those kids contact me at arthur.pawlak@usa.net and I will find out the best way to contact the right organization in Krakow.

Northern Ireland School System

I would ask Mr. Gates to please consider both the Northern Ireland Public School System, and the Business Education Initiative (BEI) as candidates for his charitable donations to the Northern Ireland Peace Process. The Northern Ireland public school system will now be managed and funded by the newly created Northern Ireland Assembly, under the direction of Mr. Martin McGuinness, the newly appointed Minister for Education, for Northern Ireland.

For information on the Northern Ireland public school system, please contact:

Business Education Initiative

The BEI, an in-place program, is managed under the direction of Mr. Ian Walters, Chief Executive of the Training and Employment Agency (T&EA) located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The BEI program funding has, in the past, been obtained through the International Fund for Ireland; European Union Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation; County Enterprise Boards of Norther Ireland, and the Training and Employment Agency (T&EA) of Northern Ireland. Sponsoring colleges and universitys wave both student tuition and board, and the T&EA provides each student with a monthly allowance for personal needs. However, with the signing of the Northern Ireland Peace Agreement, establishment of a self governing Northern Ireland Assembly, and experiration of EU funding, both the Northern Ireland public school system and BEI funding profiles will, of necessity, change.

I learned about the BEI Program while spending a year in Norther Ireland as a volunteer during 1997-98. Under the direction of the T&EA, my task was to develop a longitudinal study to see if the Program has an impact on past Program participant's success, over time. I undertook an extensive survey of those Program participants who had actually completed both their course of study in Ireland and the BEI and used these survey results to complete the study, with a concentration on this focus group.

The major focus of the study was to elicit information from past participants on their current educational and/or work status. It also sought their perception, as past participants, of the overall effects the BEI Program has had on their education and employments careers.

The low unemployment rate, coupled with the reported level of gross earnings of these past BEI participants, was an important indicator of their success, and 90% indicated they thought the BEI experience had helped them obtain a job. It is interesting to note that the past BEI participant, with the highest reported level of gross earning, was employed as a computer programmer.

The BEI was piloted in September 1994, when 19 Northern Ireland students were placed in 11 US colleges and universities to study business and related subjects. The Program is aimed at pre-final year students who are working toward their undergraduate degree, in any discipline, who wish to pursue a career in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in industry, business or commerce.

Participants are provided with an opportunity to develop academic, applied and interpersonal skills while also completing a business related internship with a US company. During the Program students complete a project report based on their 'real world' business experience. Since the Program's inception, over 600 students have completed the Program within over 300 participating US colleges and universities.

For additional information on the BEI Program, please contact;

Construction Dust Reduction

I understand there is a terrible problem on and around areas of Lake Washington due to excessive dust being produced by construction. Certain people have actually had to move out of their homes because of allergic reactions to the fog of dust (that's cute) being produced.

He [Bill Gates] should invest in research to reduce the amount of dust produced during construction of buildings.

Postage Stamps

Bill should fund the design and creation of postage stamps with Microsoft products on them. All the proceeds could go to fund the retirement of those postal workers being displaced by e-mail. Excuse me, I meant MS Outlook. Why, the MSDN series alone would keep collectors busy for years. And kids would love to collect all the Microsoft Home titles!
