Evidence of Life on Mars

Getting this from Tim Ewald, a high-brow New Englander [1], set me up for the punchline even more.

[1] but in a good way!

I don't know if I'd lend that image too much credence.

It was color-corrected, which is the first sign of tampering - who knows what else they've done to it.

They might even have staged the whole thing in some desert in Nevada. I'm no photo expert, and I try to avoid conspiracy theories, but I suspect that there might have been some modifications made to the image with some sort of high-end, government-only image-manipulation app, but that's just my skeptical side talking.

I'm not saying it's *definitely* fake - rather, I think we should wait for a deeper analysis before passing judgment.

That said, I hope that what we're seeing in the image isn't just glare on the lens or a practical joke.

If it's true, if this image is *real*, then our children woke up today in a larger universe - one rife with possibility, potential, and hope for humankind. We will be able to look up in the vast blackness of space and suppose that maybe, just *maybe*, there are other beings out there who are as curious as we are about the stars. We will be able to say, "Here, many a one has dipped an oar in the inky sea of space, and rowed across the heavens in great ships of origins unknown, headed for destinations undiscovered, undreamt, and unimagined. We, too, will one day set sail in that black sea and smell the sweet salt-air of adventure as we coast the crests and troughs of waves riding in that universal tide."

We would no longer be alone...

Unsure...

Unknown...

At last.

Please let this be true.

You know, I've seen all kinds of strange things in recent images from Mars...
