November 2004 Avalon CTP Released

Just in case you haven't noticed, MSDN Subscribers should download the Avalon Community Technology Preview, which enables Avalon to run under Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 and to integrate with Visual Studio 2005. Also, you can access the WinFX SDK that reference Avalon online. And as if that weren't enough, the Avalon evangelist and product teams have teamed up to give you an overview of what's new in this pre-release of Avalon. Of course, we're still on the way to beta, let alone an RTM of Avalon, so there's still plenty of time to give the Avalon team feedback about what you love and don't love in the Avalon newsgroup.

And as if that we're enough, here's some views and news about the Avalon CTP:

In the words of Chris Anderson, Architect on the Avalon team, "This is not the final API set, XAML spec, or anything else - this is a 'Technology Preview'". And still, I've spent all day installing in on my machine. Wahoo!

Is it me or MSDN?, Friday, November 19, 2004 8:14 PM

I can't find the download on the MSDN Universal site and the MSDN concierge has never heard of it. Any chance of a link?

Thanks!

It appears that Passport is currently broken on the MSDN subscriptions site, which is just a *little* bit frustrating (I checked the VS 2005 Beta developer site and that was fine, so it doesn't seem to be a general problem with Passport).Sigh. I was drooling with anticipation...now I will have to wipe the drool off and return to quiet contemplation.

I can't give you a direct link, since MSDN Subscriber Downloads doesn't support that (sigh), but I can tell you that Andy Boyd told me that the Avalon CTP download is "in the Tools, SDKs, DDKs folder under Platforms" (after you've logged in as an MSDN Subscriber at http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscription/).

I just got in (drooling recommenced).
The relevant heading under "Platform Tools, SDKs" etc. is "WinFX SDK - Community Technology Preview".
I just thought I'd mention that in case anyone has trouble finding it because they're doing a visual keyword scan for "Avalon" (I tend to do that when I'm reading a long list).

Dayum, the unnavigable awfulness of MSDN really blows my mind.
